A Few Brief Thoughts at the End of the Year

(aka RIGGS INTEGRAL COACHING ANNUAL REPORT 2022)

In a year full of world crises, fears, losses, and an ongoing need for courage in large and small issues…brave people are stepping up!

My calling is to help people find their authentic selves and step into their growth work. This is my contribution to a world where every person’s courage and integrity matter. Humans can only solve our big problems if we bring big skills to the work, in small and large issues. It has been my privilege this year to work with many brave, kind individuals who are doing good work in the world.

As I continue to coach individual clients and teams, I am always working on my own growth as well. I can only ask clients to step out with courage if I’m doing it too! I have taken several continuing education courses, and am currently working toward certification from The Narrative Enneagram in order to deepen the Enneagram work that I do with coaching clients.

Of the many excellent books I have read this year, the one I most want to highlight is a potentially world-changing one:

Childhood Disrupted, by Donna Jackson Nakazawa. This very accessible book explains, for a non-medical audience, how childhood stresses (Adverse Childhood Experiences, ACE) affect our neurobiology and how we can heal from these disruptions. The work of healing individuals also has an impact on families, communities, and entire societies – we can bring compassion and evidence-based understanding to the violence and dysfunction in our world.

(Side note: when I prepared to post this in early January 2023, I found that my website was inaccessible due to a link problem with Google. It took a month to sort out the issue and get it reconnected. An opportunity to practice handling stress with mindfulness, yay!)

I wish all my clients and friends a New Year full of compassion for self and others. Be brave and kind, and remember to have fun too!

Susan
